The deltoid muscle is one of the most prominent muscles of the shoulder and arm. It is innervated by the axillary nerve from the brachial plexus and plays an important role in various movements in the shoulder joint.

Its three parts (clavicular, acromial and spinal) originate from their respective bones and they all insert at the deltoid tuberosity at the lateral shaft of the humerus.
